Bushwick, Brooklyn - Part II

Harlem was always a wonderful place in my mind. So rich in history and a place where many famous musicians, actors, actresses and activists have called home, and ever since I was a young teenager I have always wanted to live here. A little over a year ago I made that a reality. Sadly now I find myself wanting to move on, wanting to be where the current artists are and dive into present day culture, so I am strongly considering moving back to Brooklyn - Bushwick, specifically. But it's complicated. As an activist that values community and family, I cannot move into a neighborhood that is rapidly experiencing gentrification [read about it here] if I'm going to be part of the problem. So I have to think long and hard before making the decision to move and if ultimately I do decide to, take every precaution that I, as a single white person, will not be exacerbating the problem. I have been to Bushwick multiple times and have even done a photo shoot out there with a client, but I never just perused the neighborhood and photographed, so on Sunday, April 26th, I ventured out to do just that. Manhattan Bridge and DUMBO - Part II

One of my favorite pasttimes when I was living in Florida was to get in my car and drive to a specific destination and photograph for the day, as well as sample the local cuisine. Now that I'm in NYC, I no longer have a car to get into, but I do have an unlimited metrocard with access to all five boroughs - a privilege in its own right. On Sunday, March 29 [I know, procrastination], my friend and fellow photographer Christopher Lucka and I met up in the Lower East Side and ventured across the Manhattan Bridge, into Dumbo and eventually into Williamsburg. We ate at a Greek restaurant called Oasis of Williamsburg where I had a falafel and a flavored soda. As we were walking, here are some of the images that I captured:

MARCH 21, 2015 - ANTI-WAR MARCH IN D.C.

On Saturday, March 21, we drove in for the day to march against a new war with Iran, as well as against other pointless wars that only profit the corporations and the elite. Due to being backed up for almost two hours due to traffic from an accident, we missed the rally at the White House and the beginning of the march. Here are some of the photos from the action.
