2011 was the best year of my life thus far, but 2012 is going to be better.
Last year saw me moving to New York City, the start of Occupy Wall Street, meeting Lupe Fiasco and becoming part of the Fiasco Street Team, meeting Cornel West and answering his call to stop the Stop & Frisk policy here in NYC, my first arrest (and second, third and fourth), living in a tent in a park for a month and a half, an eviction, an education that I never could have found in a college or university and the mentality that I can help change the world.
But this year is going to be different. We will continue to protest, but I feel like that was just our wake up call to millions. This year will see us being more of a Think Tank and Direct Action, and making the changes we want to see in this world. I will be listing them soon enough, but I need to make a rough draft of the list because there is just so much that is wrong.
Today Matt, Stina, Terrence and I went out to begin becoming part of that change we want to see as we spent an hour and a half around the block picking up trash and recycling. Our goal is to do that at least three times a week and get to know more members of the community, all while wearing our Occupy Wall Street and Stop Stop & Frisk gear. This is a continuation of the activities that we have been participating in these past few weeks, whether it be out on 125th handing out buttons or explaining UF-250's, which are the forms the NYPD have to fill out when they stop and frisk someone. We have also made our way down to the 28th Precinct and held a candlelight vigil while holding up Stop Stop & Frisk signs. Community building and awareness are two of our major overall goals this year.
So here's to the fighters, the believers and non-believers, the supportive and the ones with other intentions, HERE'S TO THE 99 PERCENT!
Peace and Love.
